ROUTE
Jungfrau Marathon - a success story
What would the Jungfrau Marathon be without the Jungfrau? You, the Jungfrau and the most famous panorama in the Alps have made this event a marathon of superlatives, a cult race, the alpine equivalent of the New York event. You run in full view of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau completing no ordinary marathon but a panoramic version. Along the way the scenery keeps changing. The emerald Lake Brienz contrasts with the icy giants of the Bernese Oberland, the sheer rock faces in the Lauterbrunnen Valley with the bubbling waters of the Lütschine, the gnarled stone pines below the Wengernalp with the eternal ice of the majestic Silberhorn.
The idea
The course followed on logically from the idea to stage a run over a classic distance in a classic tourism region and to introduce new stimuli to marathon running by choosing a course abounding in natural highlights. The Jungfrau Marathon is supported by a highly motivated team of organising committee members as well as almost 1000 volunteers from over forty clubs in the region. They all share the same goal: to provide every entrant with a lasting memory of a wonderful experience in a fantastically beautiful landscape.
